New Game Releases for January 2019

Happy New Year to all of our readers! Although we start the year with one man less than we finished with in 2018 (Thanks to Rich Berry for all his hard work), the writing team remaining here at Thumbstix are still attempting to bring you all the gaming news and reviews as previous – oh, and hopefully more video content as well! And we start with the first news post of the new year, highlighting some of the January new releases. Of course, we don’t know every release date – they will be some ID@Xbox stuff we know nothing about, and something will surely get delayed, but as of the first of the month this list is accurate.

Probably the two biggest releases in January come towards the end of the month, with Resident Evil 2 Remake (January 25th) and Kingdom Hearts 3 (January 29th) coming to Xbox, PS4 and PC. Lots of excitement around these two, and I am definitely looking forward to the latter which I played at EGX 2018.

We also have a new Ace Combat arriving on PS4 and Xbox on January 18th with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and Switch owners have New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe arriving next week on January 11th! Most of the Thumbstix team now have a Switch (Thanks Santa) so expect more Switch-related content in 2019.

Finishing off the known releases are the following;

  • Pikuniku (PC, Switch) – January 7th
  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey (3DS) – January 11th
  • Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition (PC, PS4, Xbox, Switch) – January 11th
  • Onimusha: Warlords (PC, PS4, Xbox, Switch) – January 15th
  • The Walking Dead: The Final Season – Episode 3: Broken Toys (Xbox, PS4, PC, Switch) – January 15th
  • Hell Warders (PC, PS4, Xbox) – January 17th
  • Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes (Switch) – January 18th
  • A Fisherman’s Tale (PS4 PSVR) – January 22nd
  • At The Gates (PC) – January 23rd
  • Gang Beasts (Xbox) – January 23rd
  • Life Is Strange 2: Episode 2 – Rules – (Xbox, PS4, PC) – January 24th
  • Tropico 6 (PC) – January 25th
  • Genesis Alpha One (PC, PS4, Xbox) – January 29th

For those of you on a more limited budget, we also have the free games for both PS+ and Xbox Games With Gold for January. Xbox are giving us one of the Games of The Year for 2019 in Celeste, along with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, WRC6 and Far Cry 2. PS+ gives us Steep, Portal Knights, Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Amplitude, Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion and Super Mutant Alien Assault.
