Odd joke or did a new Splinter Cell just get leaked?

Julian Gerighty, creative director at Ubisoft, has made a curious comment on Twitter. It seems he’s casually announced that Ubisoft are working on the next game in the Splinter Cell series.

It certainly seems a bit odd to announce something this big via a tweet, especially when it comes to Splinter Cell, a series fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of since its last outing in 2013.

Gerighty followed up his revealing tweet with another suggesting he might be in a bit of trouble now, adding more fuel to the fire.

Ubisoft have been quick to responde, saying in a statement to PCGamer:

Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do. It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We do not have any announcements to make at this time.

But we’ve seen stunts like this before with supposed leaks shortly before E3. It’s certainly got us all talking and hoping that Splinter Cell is coming back soon. The wait for E3 is becoming excruciating.
