The Global Game Jam 2019 started yesterday (Friday) in countries all around the world, as thousands of professional and hobbyist game designers gather in 862 registered sites for a 48-hour game development marathon across 114 different countries.
One of our very own is partaking in the game jam this year, our most talented and handsome writer, I am of course talking about yours truly (Greg Giddens).
To celebrate the 11th annual Global Game Jam, Valve is running a sale this weekend for a discount of up to 85% off some of the hit games that got their start during past Global Game Jams, including: iO, Surgeon Simulator, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Starwhal, Mushroom 11, A Normal Lost Phone, “how do you Do it?”, Screencheat, Home Improvisation: Furniture Sandbox, Life Goes On: Done to Death, Blockpocalypse and Marooners.
“The 11th annual Global Game Jam is already underway in a number of countries, starting from New Zealand and moving east, and we are excited to see what creative ideas emerge from this year’s secret theme,”
said Seven Siegel, Executive Director of Global Game Jam, Inc.
“Some truly unique concepts and fun video game experiences have come out of past Global Game Jams, and we are thrilled that Steam is running a sale to offer some of the best of these games for a discounted price in celebration of this weekend of global video game creative collaboration.”
Players can visit the Steam Store page this weekend for deep discounts on some incredible play experiences. The sale ends on Sunday night when the Global Game Jam 2019 wraps.
iO is an abstract physics platformer about size and speed, as players must grow bigger and smaller in order to solve some of the trickiest puzzles and reach the exit as quickly as possible to grab the gold medal!
Surgeon Simulator is an over-the-top operation sim, stitching together pitch-black humour with life-saving surgery. Players become Dr. Burke, a would-be surgeon with a less than conventional toolkit, as he performs procedures on patients including none other than Donald Trump, himself! Wait… is that a hammer?
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime explores a neon galaxy as players maneuver their own battleships in this 1-to-4 player couch co-op adventure.
Starwhal is a local multiplayer space fighting game that rocked the internet after its Global Game Jam debut in 2014. One-four players flop it out in a retro, epic narwhal battle in space! The heart-piercing action is furious and unrelenting!
Mushroom 11 is an award-winning anti-platformer where destruction is the only way to move. Players mold themselves into any form by destroying their cells, and then traverse a devastated landscape filled with brain-twisting puzzles and bizarre mutations.
A Normal Lost Phone is an interactive fiction game about exploring the intimacy of an unknown person whose phone was found by the player. As the player solves puzzles and becomes more acquainted with the mysterious phone’s owner, the story unravels…
how do you Do it? puts players in the role of an 11-year-old girl whose mother has just stepped out for an errand. The girl immediately grabs her dolls and furtively attempts to figure out how sex works using these plastic surrogates.
Home Improvisation: Furniture Sandbox lets players build beautifully precise or wildly creative furniture, as they decorate an entire house with their creations. Four players can play locally, or they can invite an online player to help build the furniture of their dreams!
Life Goes On: Done to Death is a comical puzzle platformer where players must die to progress. The bodies they leave behind are the only tools they have to solve puzzles on a quest to find the Cup of Life.
Screencheat is a ridiculous competitive split-screen first-person shooter where everyone is invisible, so players are forced to look at each other’s screens in order to win. Supporting both local and online multiplayer, combat in Screencheat is fast and furious with a wide variety of one-hit kill weapons.
Blockpocalypse is the shared screen multiplayer party platformer about surviving with friends… or at least outliving them.
Marooners is a wild mix of fun party games with action that regularly switches back and forth between games in a switcheroo chaos! Players join friends on the couch and online to sadistically laugh at others’ misfortune, and then come back to haunt the others when they die…
